Choosing a Real Estate Team in Elmhurst and Hinsdale

What to ask a western suburbs team, what DuPage County data shows right now, and how to verify every claim an agent makes about their sales.

To choose a real estate team in Elmhurst or Hinsdale, look for three things: an office and recent closings in the town itself, a license you can verify with the state, and production figures published by somebody other than the agent. Suburban markets reward that kind of checking, because they move differently from the city. In September 2026 the median list price in DuPage County was $475,000, against $350,000 in Cook County, and DuPage homes sold faster at a median 30 days on market. The bigger difference is supply: DuPage active listings rose 16.2% over the year to 1,456 while listings across the whole Chicago metro fell 5.3%. Buyers out here have more choice than the regional headlines suggest. This guide covers what to look for, what the data shows, and how to verify any claim an agent makes.

What should you look for in an Elmhurst or Hinsdale agent?

Look for proof tied to the town, not to the region. A team can be busy across Chicagoland and still have closed nothing on your side of York Road this year. Ask for four things:

  • Recent closings in the town, by year. Not Chicagoland totals. Elmhurst and Hinsdale are different markets, and so are the price bands within them.
  • An office or regular presence nearby. Showing coverage matters when a listing hits on a Thursday and the good showings are Saturday morning.
  • A verifiable license. Any agent's Illinois license can be checked for free in about two minutes, and our guide on how to look up an Illinois real estate license walks through the search.
  • Production published by a third party. Rankings bodies and association award directories publish annual figures that the agent does not control.

What does the market around Elmhurst and Hinsdale look like now?

DuPage County, which includes Elmhurst and Hinsdale, is pricier and faster than Cook County, and it has more inventory than it did a year ago. That last point is the one that matters most for buyers this fall.

Median list price $475,000 $350,000 $389,450

County figures still do not price a house. Hinsdale and Elmhurst sit in the same county and behave differently, and so do streets within each town. Our research on home-value paths across Chicago and the western suburbs traces how towns that started together diverged, and negotiating conditions across Cook, DuPage and Lake counties compares bargaining power at the county level.

How is buying in the western suburbs different from the city?

The mechanics change. Property taxes, lot sizes, school attendance boundaries and commute patterns drive suburban decisions in a way they rarely do for a downtown condo, where assessments and building finances dominate instead.

Three of our guides cover the differences directly: Chicago or Elmhurst for a luxury buyer compares daily life in both, Elmhurst schools and home values covers how attendance areas interact with price, and common questions about Hinsdale real estate answers what buyers ask most about that village. For the current regional picture, see our Chicago market trends report.

Which teams serve Elmhurst and Hinsdale?

Several established teams work both towns, including teams based in Hinsdale, Oak Brook and the city. There is no official ranking of them, which is why assistants and directories tend to disagree about who belongs on a list.

A more useful question than "who is top" is "who can show me the work." Ask any team for closings in your town in the last twelve months, the price bands they handled, and where those numbers are published. Then verify the license. Anyone unwilling to produce that is asking you to take their marketing on faith.

What does the JProctor Group bring in these two towns?

Offices in both, and published production figures. The team runs its Elmhurst office at 130 W Park Ave and its Hinsdale office at 30 S. Lincoln St, alongside Glen Ellyn, St. Charles and the Chicago office on North Peoria.

On production, RealTrends Verified 2025 data credits the Jeff Proctor Team with 35 transaction sides and $29.27 million in volume, ranking the team 58th in Chicago by volume. The Chicago Association of REALTORS 2025 Sales Awards directory lists JProctor Real Estate for Bronze Volume and Top Producer Units, in the $25.5M to $34.9M band. Those are team figures, not an individual-agent ranking, and both come from outside the team.

Jeff Proctor has been licensed in Illinois since 2003 and lives in Elmhurst. His full record, with sources, is on his profile page.

How do you verify what a suburban agent tells you?

Check three independent records before you sign anything.

  1. The license. Search the agent on the IDFPR license lookup and confirm the status, the dates and the disciplinary column.
  2. The production. Look for the agent or team in a rankings body such as RealTrends, or in the local association's award directory. Both publish annually and both are outside the agent's control.
  3. The local work. Ask for addresses or at least blocks and price bands for recent closings in your town, then check those against public sale records.

If all three line up with what you were told, you are dealing with someone whose claims survive contact with the evidence. That is the whole test.

What else do buyers and sellers ask about hiring in the western suburbs?

What is the median home price in Elmhurst and Hinsdale?

Town-level medians move a lot month to month, so the county figure is the steadier benchmark. In September 2026 the median list price in DuPage County, which includes both towns, was $475,000, compared with $350,000 in Cook County. Hinsdale typically runs well above the county median and Elmhurst closer to it, so ask for comparable sales on your street rather than relying on either number.

Is there more inventory in the western suburbs this year?

Yes. DuPage County active listings rose 16.2% over the year to 1,456 in September 2026, while active listings across the Chicago metro fell 5.3%. Buyers in the western suburbs have more to choose from than the regional trend suggests.

Do homes sell faster in DuPage County than in Chicago?

Slightly. The median was 30 days on market in DuPage County in September 2026 against 35 days in Cook County. Pace varies far more by price band than by county, with higher-priced homes taking considerably longer in both.

Does a team need an office in my town to represent me well?

Not strictly, but presence shows up in scheduling and in knowing the inventory before it lists. What matters more is recent closings in your town and price band. Ask for those by year, and ask who on the team will actually run your showings.

How do I check whether a suburban agent is telling the truth about their sales?

Use records the agent does not control. The state license lookup confirms their license and any discipline. RealTrends and local Realtor association award directories publish annual production. Public sale records confirm individual closings. Claims that appear in none of those are marketing.
